The project, estimated to cost $500,000, will replace a 25-year-old staircase, refurbish an existing port building elevators and escalators for handicap accessibility, and make other site improvements. A $360,000 Federal Transportation Authority grant will pay for most of the improvements, while the port will pick up the balance. Holland America Line will offer 24 seven-day cruises to Bermuda aboard Veendam in 2011, continuing the schedule established this year. The premium line returned to regular Bermuda service from New York in 2010 after more than 25 years. The 2011 voyages begin May 1 and will sail roundtrip from New York through Oct. 9, calling at St. George’s and Hamilton.

The 1,350-guest Veendam will spend one day at St. George’s and two nights at Hamilton. The cruises will call first at St. George’s, Bermuda’s original capital. Princess Cruises in the fall 2011-spring 2012 cruise season will offer South American cruises and cruise-tours, taking passengers down the Amazon River, around Cape Horn, along Brazil or up to Machu Picchu. The company will offer 10 departures aboard Star Princess and Pacific Princess to 31 destinations. Crystal Cruises is increasing the incentive for guests who refer new-to-Crystal guests to the luxury line. For almost every Crystal cruise between September and April, a new “Bonus Share the Experience” program offers all booked guests $400 in shipboard spending credit (or $250 for Mexico cruises) for each new-to-Crystal guest they refer to sail with them in a separate stateroom. With the new program, booked guests can earn up to $1,600 per person in shipboard credits for his/her friend’s new booking made after July 7. New guests will receive a $100 shipboard credit, up to $200 per stateroom.

What’s different about this bonus program is that the credits are larger and the program is not only opento past guests. Anyone traveling during this period can participate. The project, estimated to cost $500,000, will replace a 25-year-old staircase, refurbish an existing port building elevators and escalators for handicap accessibility, and make other site improvements. A $360,000 Federal Transportation Authority grant will pay for most of the improvements, while the port will pick up the balance.
