Avalon Waterways is unveiling a number of dining enhancements to its river ships in 2011. The enhancements include giving cruisers a choice of appetizer, salad, entrée, cheese and dessert; featuring local fare options at each meal; highlighting sustainable cuisine on French itineraries; offering more healthy options including low calorie, low sodium and glucose-free cuisine; and introducing Night Fare, served at 10:30 p.m. each day.
Viking River Cruises has added four new Christmas itineraries for 2010. Each of the 10-day programs will sail during the Christmas holiday through the heart of Germany on either the Rhine or Danube rivers and include river-view accommodations, daily guided tours, all meals and visits to the time-honored Christmas markets.
The itineraries are “Winter on the Danube” from Nuremberg to Budapest departing Dec. 18; “Winter Rhineland, Amsterdam to Basel, Dec. 19; “Winter Holiday,” Nuremberg to Vienna, Dec. 19; and “European Winter Sojourn,” Budapest to Passau, Dec. 18 or 19.
All-inclusive pricing starts at $1,622 per person, which reflects the current offer of two-for-one cruise and land pricing. Those who book by July 31 can take advantage of up to two-for-one roundtrip international air and transfers when reserving a category C stateroom or higher. As an added bonus, guests also will receive complimentary wine with dinner onboard. The company already provides early- and late-riser breakfast options, and next year will add complimentary sparkling wine for Mimosas and made-to-order egg stations to the breakfast buffet. Guests will also will be able to order continental breakfast in their room and have drinks delivered to them throughout the day.
More drink options are also on the menu for Avalon Waterways. In addition to offering complimentary wine, beer or soft drinks at dinner and soft drinks with lunch, next year Avalon will feature a cocktail hour. There will be a drink discount during cocktail hour up to two-for-one prices along with “drink of the day” recommendations from the bartender. Complimentary cappuccino, espresso, latte and premium Lavazza coffee will also be provided to Avalon passengers throughout the day.
Avalon introduced alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink packages this year that can be pre-purchased.
